I don’t remember not playing music.
I started playing violin when I was five...
...and switched to viola at age six. But I teach both. |
With a Masters degree from Boston Conservatory, I specialize as a baroque soloist. I have a particular affinity for Bach, but I play everything. Jazz, pop, funk, Irish fiddle, and any and all classical styles. I love it all.
I've done backing tracks for metal bands and international Top 40 hits. I’ve played in symphonies for decades, including working as a studio musician for a scoring orchestra (movies and video games!) |
As a teacher, my focus is on making music approachable. Many people assume that learning to read music is impossible, or that string instruments are impossibly difficult to learn. Piano is easier to start, sure (I teach that too!) but violin and viola aren't nearly as daunting as you may think.
To help make things even less intimidating for my youngest students, I wrote and illustrated an introductory violin method book to help them learn how to read music intuitively.
